The pacing was awkward, a lot of themes were brought up only to be dropped, the camerawork was inconsistent (and if that was done to make a point, it wasn’t necessary), some parts of the script weren’t believable, a lot of the plot felt forced, secondary characters were thrown about randomly, and plenty of other things annoyed me.
But it’s going down as one of the best movies I’ve seen this year because it was exactly the movie I needed to see right now. Plus, Jennifer Lawrence was fucking brilliant, and Tiffany Maxwell was one of the most beautifully rounded and relateable female characters I’ve seen since Natalie Portman’s Alice Ayers in Closer.
What Erin took away from it was, “You can be a complete fucked-up lunatic, but if you’re hot, someone will love you.” All our cynicism and we still both cried like babies through the last ten minutes. There ya go.
