I had my mom drive me to check on a cat I’ve seen lying in the same spot in a ditch for two days in a row tonight so I really identify with Will in...
Of the 100 students in my year of my grad program, about twenty of us are in the copywriting track (two never made it to Virginia, and one guy was so intimidated after the first week that he’s dropped out).
Tonight, most of the copywriters got together at a bar, got drunk, shared our histories and stresses and woes, walked to another bar that (unbeknownst to us) was having an all-K-Pop night, danced badly and drank more and talked until it shut down at two.
Here is what I learned: 1. It is important not to become so obsessed with work that you ignore life, because with creative work, life is the best source of inspiration, and 2. I am surrounded by a bunch of kind, humble, funny, unbelievably attractive weirdos who are going through the same thing I am, and it is fantastic to feel so much less alone.
